Live Orchestra Joins The Georgia Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 17, 2019

The Georgia Ballet, founded by the late Iris Hensley, has been a Marietta staple in performing arts since 1959. Her vision, dedication, and the support of her family and the local community created a long standing legacy that is The Georgia Ballet. In their 60th Anniversary season, the annual production of The Nutcracker will be performed Dec 5-8 with The Georgia Ballet Orchestra, through the support of generous donors.

Robert Trocina, Music Director and Conductor of Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra, has been named Music Director and Conductor of The Georgia Ballet Orchestra. Trocina will bring together talented musicians to perform live during The Georgia Ballet’s Nutcracker.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be working with Joy, Daet, Margit, and the uber-talented professional dancers of The Georgia Ballet, and I am grateful to the donors who have made this possible” states music director, Robert Trocina. “We have amassed 28 of Georgia’s finest professional musicians in creating the brand new The Georgia Ballet Orchestra! It is an exciting time for the performing arts in Marietta.”

“The traditional ballet, ‘The Nutcracker’ comes to life every year through music, colors, and dance. This ballet has become one of the great classics and a Christmas tradition. Our production presents a new aspect every year for both the dancers and the audience. Since this is our 60th Anniversary season, we would like to celebrate by having you experience our production of “The Nutcracker” with a live orchestra, especially the wonderful feeling brought on by the interaction between live music and dance.”

The Nutcracker live with The Georgia Ballet Orchestra will be performed at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre with performances on December 5-8 this holiday season. Thursday evening’s performance will be an abridged sensory friendly version with recorded music. The 2PM show on Sunday the 8th will also be recorded music.
